Happy Earth Overshoot Day

The end's drawing nearer, all bleak irrefutable evidence The lands turning hostile, we count down as species die out and the skies gather rain And we're all to blame, it's our lifestyle's inevitable consequence Happy Earth Overshoot Day Solutions don't win as many elections as promises Our leaders keep talking of change as the tensions increase and progress decays This heat makes us colder, our hearts sink with hope as the waters rise Happy Earth Overshoot Day! The future's predictable, the science's been here for a century We all know the price for our excess, but can't stop ourselves and the - whole planet will pay Just keep rocking hard in a world on the brink of catastrophe Happy Earth Overshoot Day! Happy Earth Overshoot Day!

Hide Away 03:16
Far away, the city's roaring The machine we've built to kill ourselves is playing out song Any day the oil is running dry Just in time for a war over water In the greater scheme of things we might be powerless to change anything But this places compels us to move ourselves And I'm sick of the fucking sadness And it can't get to us here In our hide away Satire's dead, now long live politics In this match the best act takes the belt when leaving the ring So place your bets, we know the show is rigged It'd be kind of fun if it weren't so depressing Hope and denial, it's a thin line But we can walk it if we carry each other And see where it leads to follow our feet If we're caught in this fucking nightmare we might as well dream In our hide away Everybody knows the price of everything Everybody knows the price but the value of nothing They won't get to us here In our hide away

about

The Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.

“I have become quite hopeless in regards to our collective ability to do something about the climate catastrophe that has been looming my entire lifetime.
I have no hope that the song will change much on a greater, political level (where things need to change) but I have to vent this frustration somehow - and singing protest songs is the only meaningful way I know. Maybe it can give others who share that feeling a little peace of mind, knowing they are not alone. And if nothing else, we’ll all have a song to sing when the world ends.”
